MSN Theatre Turns Performance into Purpose

As Barbers Hill ISD ramps up preparations for the 2026 Relay for Life event on April 17, the district is proud to recognize the meaningful contributions of students from Barbers Hill Middle School North, whose theatre program recently turned storytelling into service.

MSN Theatre’s UIL One Act Play production, The Amazing Lemonade Girl, tells the true story of Alexandra “Alex” Flynn Scott, a young girl whose life—though only eight years long—sparked a global movement in the fight against childhood cancer. Before her passing in 2004, Alex raised more than $1 million through lemonade stands to support cancer research. In her honor, her parents founded Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which has since raised more than $350 million to fund research and support families affected by childhood cancer.

Inspired by Alex’s courage and legacy, MSN Theatre students took action beyond the stage. Students presented fundraising proposals to campus principal Mrs. James and were approved to host a lemonade stand during lunch, encourage students and staff to wear yellow in support, and accept donations during the public performance of their One Act Play on January 22. Through these efforts, MSN Theatre proudly raised $958 for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.

“Their initiative reflects the power of the arts to educate, inspire, and unite a community around a cause greater than themselves”, said director, Jessica Vass.
